We are thrilled to announce the official inauguration of the Polish Soil Orchestra, a core initiative of the European SoilScape project (Spreading Open and Inclusive Literacy and Soil Culture through Artistic Practices and Education).
The launch event took place on October 1 in the historic and inspiring interiors of Willa Waleria in Milanówek. Once the home of the renowned sculptor Jan Szczepkowski, this venue perfectly embodies the project’s spirit, where art, culture, and nature have been intertwined for decades. We would like to extend our warmest thanks to our hosts: Aneta Majak and Michał Słowiński from the Milanówek Cultural Center, and Artur Niedziński, the Mayor of Milanówek, for providing a space where soil can be “heard” and “seen” in so many forms.
The meeting brought together representatives from local government, NGOs, and various institutions to share valuable insights on how to integrate soil science with artistic expression. These discussions are vital for shaping effective environmental literacy programs in the Mazovia region and beyond.
What’s next? The inauguration of the Polish Soil Orchestra marks the beginning of a three-year journey. As part of the EU-funded SoilScape project (Horizon Europe), we are building a network of 8 National Soil Orchestras across Europe. Our mission is to bridge the gap between scientific knowledge and public awareness through creative engagement. All these efforts will culminate in a grand Soil Festival in 2027.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for your passion and expertise. To those who couldn’t attend due to the autumn flu season – we missed you and look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events!
May the soil be with us! The ERDN Team: Kasia, Paweł, and Basia
