The aim of the conference is to present current research and to discuss the future development of green transformation of rural areas in Europe and to develop recommendations for the creation of effective policies for rural development and agriculture. The exchange of experiences of research teams from various countries, of an interdisciplinary and intergenerational character, is extremely valuable here.

The conference is organized in cooperation of the Lithuanian Center of Social Sciences and the European Rural Development Network.

Lithuanian Center for Social Sciences, Institute of Economics and Rural Development is an active member of the ERDN and it is very pleased to host conference in Lithuania in the year of 2024. The EKVI is a scientific research institution socially responsible for holistic solutions to the issues of the Lithuanian rural economy and policy development, oriented towards national state interests and needs of business and non-governmental organisations, researching about the countryside and its processes on scientific and practical levels. The Institute aims to be a leader in national scientific research, partner of business and non-governmental organisations, uniting experts of various fields of science and directing their knowledge towards the research of the Lithuanian regional economy and development.

The ERDN was established in 2002 as a forum for exchange of ideas and research experience and a platform for cooperation between Polish and European scientific and research institutions in the field of rural development and agriculture, especially in the perspective of the European Union enlargement and its future policies. Thus, the main objective of the Network’s activity is the exchange of research results in areas that pose a challenge both for individual Member States and candidate countries, and for the European Union’s development policy. The activities of the ERDN are fully in line with the EU idea of creating a European Research Area for agriculture and rural development. The network includes leading research centres carrying out research in the field of rural development in Europe, especially from Central and Eastern European countries. It supports its members in applying for and implementing projects under Horizon 2020, Horizon Europe, Interreg, etc.
The conference will be subsidised, which means that according to ERDN custom, participants will mainly cover their travel expenses. However, the number of conference places is limited.

The Lithuanian Academy of Sciences aims to undertake initiatives, by bringing together the most eminent scientists, to strengthen the well-being of the country and to contribute to scientific, social, cultural and economic development. The Academy promote a high level of research and study, to foster critical scientific thinking in society, and to uphold scientific and academic freedom and research ethics. This is done through various forms: thematic conferences, meetings, seminars and debates. These are organised not only among the members of the Academy, but also between the Academy and other scientific and educational institutions both at home and abroad.

The conference will be subsidised, which means that according to ERDN custom, participants will mainly cover their travel expenses.  However, the number of conference places is limited.
